Today we have added a study of plants used by the Yao people in Gongcheng County, Guangxi, China. The Yao people are highly skilled at using medicinal plants to treat various conditions. However, due to the impact of urbanization and economic development, knowledge of traditional medicine is under threat. Local healers have a lack of suitable successors and are declining in number.

The study featured 306 plant species. This is the first larger ethnobotanical survey from China featured on the site.

Some of the most cited plants among survey participants include Kadsura longipedunculata, Schefflera heptaphylla, Plantago asiatica.

As always, any reported medicinal uses require scientific investigation. For more information about preparations and the parts of the plants used, please see the original publication.

This research was published in Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine in June of 2022.
