The modulatory effects of alkaloid extracts of Cannabis sativa, Datura stramonium, Nicotiana tabacum and male Carica papaya on neurotransmitter, neurotrophic and neuroinflammatory systems linked to anxiety and depression.

Summary

This study examined the effects of extracts from different plants on anxiety and depression in rats. The extracts were administered orally in varying doses for 90 days. The results showed that extracts from Cannabis sativa, Nicotiana tabacum, and male Carica papaya had anxiolytic and antidepressant properties. These extracts reduced inflammation and promoted the activity of certain neurotransmitters linked to mood regulation. However, extracts from Datura stramonium and high doses of the other extracts had adverse effects. Overall, these extracts may have therapeutic potential, but may also lead to dependence and addiction.

Datura stramonium abrogates depression- and anxiety-like disorders in mice: possible involvement of monoaminergic pathways in its antidepressant activity.

Summary

Researchers investigated the antidepressant and anxiolytic properties of a certain plant called HLDS, which is traditionally used to manage mental health issues. They studied its effects on mice and tried to understand how it works. The findings suggest that HLDS has therapeutic potential for mental health disorders in humans.
