Stereochemical insights into neuroprotective alkaloids from the aerial parts of Emilia sonchifolia.

Summary

Researchers isolated three alkaloids from Emilia sonchifolia plant, including a new compound called emililactam A. They separated two known compounds into their respective enantiomers, and their structures were confirmed using spectroscopic analysis and electronic circular dichroism calculations. In a cell culture study, emililactam A and two other compounds showed moderate neuroprotective effects against corticosterone-induced damage to PC12 cells.
