Common Names: Robert's geranium
In this research, the phytochemical profile of a widely distributed plant, also used in traditional medicine, was assessed. The extracts from the plant showed significant anticancer activity and also demonstrated antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal effects. The presence of organic and phenolic acids, hydrolysable tannins, and flavonoids was identified through phytochemical analysis. The extracts inhibited the development of a virus-induced cytopathic effect and reduced the viral load. Additionally, the extracts and fractions displayed versatile antibacterial activity, particularly against Gram-positive bacteria. These findings support the traditional use of this plant in treating hard-to-heal wounds.
The effectiveness of traditional drugs for gastric ulcers (GU) is limited, so researchers looked at natural remedies such as Aloe vera and Geranium robertianum. They assessed their ability to protect against Aspirin®-induced GU in rats. The results suggest that these herbal extracts may be promising alternatives for the treatment of GU.
Botanical medicines, such as Geranium robertianum L., have gained attention as alternative therapies for Parkinson's Disease. This Geraniaceae family plant is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, but its neuroprotective potential has yet to be confirmed.
