Inhibition of Acinetobacter baumannii Biofilm Formation by Terpenes from Oregano (Lippia graveolens) Essential Oil.

Summary

Oregano essential oil (OEO) and its compounds, carvacrol and thymol, effectively inhibit biofilms of the nosocomial pathogen . Carvacrol at 0.15 mg/mL achieved a 95% reduction, and sub-inhibitory concentrations reduced biofilm formation on surfaces. Terpenes show promise for preventing infections and overcoming antibiotic resistance.
