Common Names: nutmeg
A study investigated the effect of nutmeg extract on fat accumulation in preadipocytes. The extract reduced lipid accumulation by decreasing STAT3 phosphorylation and FAS expression, suggesting potential anti-adipogenic properties.
Researchers investigated the effect of macelignan, a compound found in Myristica fragrans, on the polarization of tumor-associated macrophages in colorectal cancer metastasis. Understanding this interaction can potentially lead to new strategies for cancer treatment. (37 words)
This study screened essential oils for their potential as rapid-acting antidepressants. PC12 and BV2 cells were tested, and effective oils were given to mice, which were then subjected to behavioral tests. In vivo experiments showed that six essential oils decreased immobility time in the tail suspension test, with two oils increasing time and entries into the open arms of the elevated plus maze. Four compounds had a strong affinity for glutamate receptor subunits and are predicted to underlie the fast-acting effect. These oils and compounds are promising candidates for further study as fast-acting antidepressants.
An herbal medicine used in Japan for cancer patients was found to have a therapeutic effect on tumor growth by suppressing it through CD8 T cells. This is the first scientific evidence of its contribution to tumor immunity.
