Phytochemistry Studies

Efficacy of various extracting solvents on phytochemical composition, and biological properties of Mentha longifolia L. leaf extracts.

This study examined the effects of different solvents on extracts from Moroccan Mentha longifolia leaves. The hydroethanolic extract had the highest phenolic and flavonoid content, best antioxidant capacity, and highest reducing power. The extracts also showed antibacterial activity.

Insights into the missing apiosylation step in flavonoid apiosides biosynthesis of Leguminosae plants.

Researchers discovered an enzyme that efficiently catalyzes the apiosylation of flavonoid glycosides, identified key sugar-binding motifs, obtained mutants with altered sugar selectivity, and synthesized flavonoid apiosides. This has implications for understanding apioside biosynthesis and phenolic apiosyltransferase applications.

A high throughput method for detection of cyclooxygenase-2 enzyme inhibitors by effect-directed analysis applying high performance thin layer chromatography-bioassay-mass spectrometry.

Scientists developed a method to detect bioactive molecules that inhibit the COX-2 enzyme using a combination of bioassay, chromatography, and mass spectrometry. They optimized the conditions and used it to identify COX-2 inhibitors in Chiloe's giant garlic extract.
