Phytochemistry Studies

Phenolic constituents isolated from Senna tora sprouts and their neuroprotective effects against glutamate-induced oxidative stress in HT22 and R28 cells.

Senna tora sprouts were found to have increased antioxidant and neuroprotective properties compared to seeds due to their higher levels of phenolic compounds, specifically compounds 1 and 3-6. Two new naphthopyrone glycosides were isolated from the sprouts. These compounds were found to protect neuronal cells against oxidative stress. Sprouts and their constituents could potentially be developed as natural neuroprotective agents.
