Evaluation of Anticancer Activity of 76 Plant Species Collected in Andalusia (Spain) against Lung Cancer Cells.

Scientists screened 76 plant species from Andalusia, Spain for potential anticancer activity. Extracts from certain plants showed selective cytotoxicity against lung cancer cells, including the flower extract which outperformed standard drugs. This study suggests that these plants could be sources of new anticancer compounds.

Gene Expression Analysis of Different Organs and Identification of AP2 Transcription Factors in Flax (Linum usitatissimum L.).

This study analyzed the gene expression profiles of different organs in flax to understand growth patterns. They found specific gene expressions in each organ and identified AP2 transcription factors as important regulators. This information can help in improving flax crops.

Isolation and Characterization of Anti-Inflammatory Compounds from Ficus microcarpa L.f. Stem Bark.

Ethyl acetate extract of bark (EAFMB) has significant anti-inflammatory effects, comparable to a reference drug. Three compounds in EAFMB showed COX inhibition and protection against denaturation, suggesting they contribute to the extract's anti-inflammatory properties.

Transcriptomic and Physiological Analysis Reveals Genes Associated with Drought Stress Responses in Populus alba × Populus glandulosa.

Drought stress affects plant productivity. Clone 72-30 had increased glucose, fructose, and sucrose levels, as well as significant changes in proline, malondialdehyde, and HO levels. Clone 72-31 showed better drought tolerance and different genetic changes.

Use of Secondary Metabolites Profiling and Antioxidant Activity to Unravel the Differences between Two Species of Nettle.

Scientists studied the composition and antioxidant activity of a little-known plant. They optimized enzymatic extraction and analyzed the metabolite profiles using chromatography. The plant showed potential for phytomedicine, with significant differences compared to another species.

Antioxidant and Antiproliferative Activities of Phenolic Extracts of Eriobotrya japonica (Thunb.) Lindl. Fruits and Leaves.

Scientists studied the phenolic compounds in loquat fruits and leaves from Tuscany, Italy. The leaf extract showed higher antioxidant and anticancer potential than the fruit extract, and both can be used as a source of antioxidants in food or cosmetics/pharmaceuticals.

Evaluation of the Chemical Profile and Antioxidant Capacity of Green, Brown, and Dark Propolis.

Different types of propolis have varying chemical compositions due to vegetation and environmental conditions. Green propolis from Brazil has the highest antioxidant capacity and phenolic compound content. Chemical profiles of the propolis extracts suggest potential application in food and pharmaceutical products.
