Genetics Studies

Cationic and anionic detergent buffers in sequence yield high-quality genomic DNA from diverse plant species.

Scientists developed a protocol to efficiently extract high-quality DNA from a wide range of plant species/tissues. This protocol was successfully applied to extract DNA from challenging species and validated for genomic studies. The protocol is useful for obtaining quality genome sequences of important plants.

Effect of dietary intervention with Capsicum annuum extract on growth performance, physiological status, innate immune response, and related gene expression in Nile tilapia.

Alcoholic extract from red pepper in fish diets improved growth, enzyme activities, immune and antioxidant parameters, and decreased mortality rate after infection. Recommended level of supplementation is 1.6 g kg for optimal growth and health.

Analysis of the mechanism of curcumin against osteoarthritis using metabolomics and transcriptomics.

Curcumin reduces inflammatory markers and affects cellular metabolism in human articular chondrocytes. It targets key proteins involved in pathways related to glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism, pyruvate production, and glycolysis to alleviate osteoarthritis.

Chromosome-level phased genome assembly of 'Antonovka' identified candidate apple scab resistance genes highly homologous to HcrVf2 and HcrVf1 on linkage group 1.

Scientists used long-read sequencing and genome analysis to identify candidate resistance genes for apple scab in 'Honeycrisp' and 'Antonovka' apples. This study provides valuable genomic resources and potential genes to further understand and enhance resistance to apple scab.

The expression of the NPR1-dependent defense response pathway genes in Persea americana (Mill.) following infection with Phytophthora cinnamomi.

This study examined the NPR1 pathway in the defense against Phytophthora cinnamomi in avocado. The findings suggest that the Dusa® rootstock suppresses SA-signaling more effectively and has better defense gene expression compared to R0.12. This provides valuable insights into avocado resistance to P. cinnamomi.

De novo genome assembly and annotation of the medicinal plant Tinospora cordifolia (Willd.) Miers ex Hook. f. & Thom's.

Scientists sequenced the genome of Tinospora cordifolia and identified genes responsible for the synthesis of syringin, a potential therapeutic compound. Syringin showed strong binding affinity for targets of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases. This research provides valuable genomic information and insights for developing therapeutic drugs.
