Opium addiction is a major public health issue in Iran, where it is the most commonly used illicit drug. This study examined treatment strategies from the perspective of Persian medicine. The search was conducted in Persian medicine books and databases using keywords related to opioids and opium since 2000 AD. Gradual and delayed reduction of opium levels, combined with appropriate spice replacements, was suggested for quitting. The study highlights the potential of traditional medicine in addressing modern public health problems.
