Green Synthesis of Chitosan-Capped Gold Nanoparticles Using Salvia officinalis Extract: Biochemical Characterization and Antimicrobial and Cytotoxic Activities.

In this study, researchers developed a green system to synthesize gold nanoparticles using sage leaf extract and chitosan. These nanoparticles showed effective inhibition of multidrug-resistant bacterial strains and potential for treating cancer at lower dosages than traditional drugs.

Cytotoxic Effect Induced by Sicilian Oregano Essential Oil in Human Breast Cancer Cells.

Oregano essential oil (OEO) extracted from L. plant grown in Sicily showed strong antioxidant capacity and reduced viability of breast cancer cells. OEO induced cell death via activation of caspases, mitochondrial dysfunction, and alterations in Bcl-2 family proteins. Combination of different OEO constituents could be a potential treatment for breast cancer.
