Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) and Its Rich Ellagitannins as Potential Inhibitors in Ulcerative Colitis.

Pomegranate's ellagitannins can inhibit inflammation, regulate intestinal health, and serve as a dietary management resource for ulcerative colitis. Preclinical and human trial studies support these therapeutic effects.

Artemisia annua L. Polyphenols Enhance the Anticancer Effect of β-Lapachone in Oxaliplatin-Resistant HCT116 Colorectal Cancer Cells.

Combining polyphenols extracted from Korean L. with β-lapachone enhances its anticancer effect on colorectal cancer cells, particularly those resistant to oxaliplatin. This combination inhibits proteins associated with resistance and promotes DNA damage, making it a potential low-toxicity therapy for oxaliplatin-resistant cancer.

Taxonomic profiling of Nasutitermes takasagoensis microbiota to investigate the role of termites as vectors of bacteria linked to ironwood tree decline in Guam.

Study investigated the role of termites as vectors of bacteria causing ironwood tree decline (IWTD) in Guam. Termites prefer low pathogen content in wood and are not vectors for Ralstonia spp. or bacterial endophytes associated with IWTD. Tree health, plot management, decline severity, and termite damage affect termite bacterial diversity.

Encapsulation of Olive Leaf Polyphenol-Rich Extract in Polymeric Micelles to Improve Its Intestinal Permeability.

Researchers developed polymeric micelles to enhance the intestinal permeability of an extract with high polyphenol content. The optimized system showed improved permeation of polyphenols in vitro. This could be significant for designing drug delivery systems with enhanced bioavailability.

Endophytic microbiota and ectomycorrhizal structure of Alnus glutinosa Gaertn. at saline and nonsaline forest sites.

Soil salinity affects microbiota diversity in the roots of European alder. Salinity drives endophytic microbiota, while soil fungi determine ectomycorrhizal symbiosis. Absorptive root length and fungal abundance decrease with increasing salinity.

Hypoglycemic effect and intestinal transport of phenolics-rich extract from digested mulberry leaves in Caco-2/insulin-resistant HepG2 co-culture model.

Phenolics in mulberry leaves inhibit sugar digestion and uptake, regulate glucose metabolism, and improve glucose metabolism. Luteoforol and p-coumaric acid are the primary phenolics responsible for the hypoglycemic effect. They can be used as dietary supplements to regulate glucose metabolism.
