Hirami lemon (Citrus reticulata var. depressa) modulates the gut-brain axis in a chronic mild stress-induced depression mouse model.

Researchers investigated the antidepressant effects of Hirami lemon on mice. The fruit extract and essential oil reversed depression and anxiety-like behaviors by restoring gut microbiota dysbiosis. This study suggests that Hirami lemon could be a natural antidepressant treatment.
