Phytochemical Properties of Crataegus azarolus Berries Decoction Extract and Evaluation of its Protective Activity Against Acetic Acid-Induced Ulcerative Colitis in Rats.

The researchers found that the extract from berries had a protective effect against ulcerative colitis induced by acetic acid in rats. The extract showed antioxidant activity and reduced damage to the colon by stimulating mucus secretion and reducing inflammation. This suggests that the extract could be a potential treatment for ulcerative colitis.

Complete chloroplast genome sequence of Pinus tabuliformis var. henryi (Mast.) C.T.Kuan 1983 (Pinaceae).

Scientists sequenced the chloroplast genome of a rare subtropical pine. The genome was 119,634 base pairs long and contained 114 genes. This study provides new data for taxonomic and phylogenetic studies of Pinus.

Creating saponin-free yellow pea seeds by CRISPR/Cas9-enabled mutagenesis on β-amyrin synthase.

Scientists use CRISPR/Cas9 to edit a gene in pea seeds, resulting in a 99.8% reduction in bitter compounds. Protein levels increase while starch decreases. Potential for improving pea cultivars using this technique is promising but more research is needed for real-world applications.

Development of virus-induced genome editing methods in Solanaceous crops.

Scientists developed two virus-induced genome editing (VIGE) methods for Solanaceous plants using TRV and PVX vectors. VIGE showed high mutation rates of 40.3% and 36.5%, and heat treatment increased editing efficiency by 33% to 76%. The methods can be applied to other Solanaceous crops.

Improvement of biochemical and antioxidant responses of borage (Borago officinalis L.) under drought stress conditions with the use of vermicompost and zinc sulfate.

Zinc sulfate and vermicompost alleviate drought stress in Borage plants by increasing chlorophyll levels, improving water content, reducing cell damage, and increasing biomass.
