Two long read-based genome assembly and annotation of polyploidy woody plants, Hibiscus syriacus L. using PacBio and Nanopore platforms.

Researchers developed a new method using long read sequencing to improve the quality of plant genomes, specifically the polyploid plant Hibiscus syriacus. This method allows for better recovery of repetitive sequences and error correction, which can have applications in genetic research and crop breeding.

Phukettosides A-E, mono- and bis-iridoid glycosides, from the leaves of Morinda umbellata L.

Scientists discovered and characterized five new compounds from Morinda umbellata L. Extracts were tested for cytotoxicity against cancer and non-cancer cell lines, but no significant effects were observed.

Valerenic acid reduces anxiety-like behavior in young adult, female (C57BL/6J) mice.

Valeriana officinalis extract contains valerenic acid (VA) and is believed to treat anxiety and insomnia. In this study, VA was shown to have similar anxiety-reducing effects as diazepam without affecting locomotor activity or inducing depression-like behavior. VA could potentially be used as an anxiolytic drug.

Secoiridoid glycosides from the fruits of Ligustrum lucidum and their in vitro anti-inflammatory activity.

Researchers discovered seven new secoiridoid glycosides from the fruits of Ligustrum lucidum. These compounds have unique structures and show potential anti-inflammatory properties.

Evaluation of an in vitro experimental platform of human polarized intestinal epithelial monolayers for the hazard assessment of insecticidal proteins.

The researchers tested the effects of hazardous and non-hazardous proteins on human intestinal cells grown in a lab. They also tested the effects of two insecticidal proteins on the cells and on mice. The results showed that the insecticidal proteins do not harm mammalian cells.

Neuroprotective effects of a combination of Boswellia papyrifera and Syzygium aromaticum on AlCl3 induced Alzheimer's disease in male albino rat.

Combination therapy of Boswellia papyrifera and Syzygium aromaticum improved cognitive function, increased acetylcholinesterase and oxidative enzyme levels, and reduced oxidative stress markers in Alzheimer's disease, offering potential treatment.

Ocimum basilicum essential oil in pacu Piaractus mesopotamicus: anesthetic efficacy, distribution, and depletion in different tissues.

Ocimum basilicum essential oil has potential as an anesthetic in aquaculture. A concentration of 300 mg L resulted in the fastest anesthesia and longest recovery period. Methyl chavicol and linalool were present in all tissue samples, but their concentrations decreased over time. The compounds were eliminated slower in the gills.
