The Role of Long-Acting Antimuscarinic Agents in the Treatment of Asthma.

This review discusses the history and effectiveness of antimuscarinic agents in asthma treatment. Tiotropium, glycopyrronium, and umeclidinium are recommended as add-on therapies for patients with severe asthma.

Effects of Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) on Hematological and Biochemical Markers, Hormonal Behavior, and Oxidant Response in Healthy Adults: A Systematic Review.

Summary: This review evaluated the current evidence on the health benefits of Withania somnifera (Ws) supplementation in healthy adults. Most studies reported that Ws supplementation reduced oxidative stress and inflammation, regulated hormone levels, and had no serious adverse events. However, more research is needed to fully understand its application.

Bioactivity-guided fractionation of Helicteres angustifolia L. extract and its molecular evidence for tumor suppression.

The 40% ethanol fraction (EF40) of the root extract possesses attractive anticancer properties with no toxicity to normal cells. EF40 reduces the expression of Nrf2, a protein found in many cancers, leading to the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) that cause cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. EF40 also inhibits NSCLC cell migration by downregulating MMPs and hnRNP-K. Mouse studies showed significant suppression of tumor growth and lung metastasis. EF40 could be a potential natural anti-NSCLC drug that requires further attention for its mechanisms and clinical applications.

Exploring the potential of Inula viscosa extracts for antioxidant, antiproliferative and apoptotic effects on human liver cancer cells and a molecular docking study.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the chemical composition and properties of leaf extracts from (Asteraceae), a plant traditionally used in folk medicine. We found that the extracts had high levels of phenols and flavonoids, and exhibited strong antioxidant activity. The extracts also showed dose-dependent cytotoxic effects on cancer cells and increased the number of apoptotic cells. Additionally, the extracts increased reactive oxygen species levels. Molecular docking identified two compounds with high binding affinities. This study highlights the potential health benefits of leaf extracts and suggests further research to identify the active compounds.
