Cardiology Studies

Medicinal plants used for management of diabetes and hypertension in Ghana.

This study investigated medicinal plants used by herbalists in Ghana for managing diabetes and hypertension. 39 species of plants were identified, 18 for hypertension, 12 for diabetes, and 9 for both. Some of these plants have potential therapeutic benefits, but clinical studies are needed for confirmation.

Ethanol extract of Verbena officinalis alleviates MCAO-induced ischaemic stroke by inhibiting IL17A pathway-regulated neuroinflammation.

Researchers investigated the therapeutic potential of Verbena officinalis in managing ischaemic stroke. Significant neuroprotective effects were observed, but further research is needed to understand the bioactive compounds and mechanisms involved. This study may offer insights for developing new treatment strategies.

Taohong Siwu decoction reduces acute myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury by promoting autophagy to inhibit pyroptosis.

TSD is a traditional Chinese medicine used to improve blood circulation. Its effects on heart injury caused by lack of blood supply and subsequent reperfusion have not been studied in terms of autophagy and pyroptosis.

Influence of acute dietary nitrate supplementation timing on nitrate metabolism, central and peripheral blood pressure and exercise tolerance in young men.

They found that beetroot juice increases nitrite in the blood, lowers blood pressure, and improves exercise performance, especially in the afternoon. Time of day can affect results.

Uncovering Mechanism and Efficacy of Salvia Miltiorrhiza-Safflower in Cerebral Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury.

This study investigates the molecular regulation and therapeutic effectiveness of the Danshen-Honghua herb pair for cerebral ischemia (CI). By identifying common targets and pathways, it suggests that DH may activate the TNF-α/JNK signaling pathway for CI treatment.

Cardioprotective study of Eriobotrya japonica leaf extracts against carbon tetrachloride induced toxicity in rats.

Researchers tested the effect of different loquat leaf extracts on protecting the heart from the toxic effects of carbon tetrachloride (CCl). They found that the aqueous extract provided the highest protection, and identified four flavonoids in the methanolic extract.
