Pergularia daemia hydro-ethanolic extract protects against pentylenetetrazole kindling-induced seizures, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation in mice.

Researchers investigated the antiepileptic potential of Pergularia daemia, a medicinal plant used in Cameroon to treat epilepsy. Traditional healers claim the hydro-ethanolic extract of its roots is more effective than an aqueous extract on refractory seizures. This study aimed to test that claim using mice models of epilepsy. The findings suggest that the hydro-ethanolic extract may have better anticonvulsant activity than the aqueous extract, indicating P. daemia's potential as a source for new antiepileptic drugs. However, further studies are needed to validate these findings.

A Method to Quantify Drosophila Behavioral Activities Induced by GABA(A) Agonist Muscimol.

Researchers investigated the effects of muscimol, a compound derived from mushrooms and a potent GABA receptor agonist that reduces anxiety and induces sleep, on fly behavior. They developed a cost-effective method for feeding adult flies muscimol and quantifying the phenotypes of "resting" and "grooming+walking". By using this method, researchers can study the effects of small molecules on fly behavior.

Taxonomy and spore morphology of genus Adiantum (Vittarioideae; Pteridaceae) from Pakistan.

This study used scanning electron microscopy to illustrate the taxonomy and spore morphology of five species of Adiantum ferns in Pakistan. The researchers examined specimens from herbaria in Pakistan, the UK, and the US. They found that the spores of the Adiantum ferns had trilete, triangular shapes with tuberculate and granulose ornamentation. This research provides important information for understanding the diversity and ecology of these ferns in their native habitats.
