Inhibition of Acinetobacter baumannii Biofilm Formation by Terpenes from Oregano (Lippia graveolens) Essential Oil.

Oregano essential oil (OEO) and its compounds, carvacrol and thymol, effectively inhibit biofilms of the nosocomial pathogen . Carvacrol at 0.15 mg/mL achieved a 95% reduction, and sub-inhibitory concentrations reduced biofilm formation on surfaces. Terpenes show promise for preventing infections and overcoming antibiotic resistance.

Purification and Characterization of Polyphenol Oxidase in the Fruits of Opuntia ficus-indica.

Researchers purified and characterized polyphenol oxidase (PPO) from fruits of [unknown]. PPO's optimal pH and temperature were determined for pyrogallol, catechol, and 4-methyl catechol. Pyrogallol was found to be the best substrate for PPO from [unknown].

Inhibition of Phagocytosis by Silibinin in Mouse Macrophages.

Silibinin, derived from milk thistle, effectively inhibits macrophage activation by preventing morphological changes and reducing phagocytosis. It targets key inflammatory pathways, making it a potential anti-inflammatory agent with promising therapeutic properties.

Chemical profiling of botanical extracts obtained in NADES systems using centrifugal partition chromatography combined with (13) C NMR dereplication-Hypericum perforatum as a case study.

Scientists have found that natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) can effectively extract botanical ingredients. NADES are safe, eco-friendly, and versatile, but analyzing the extracted compounds is challenging due to their low concentration in the thick NADES solution.

Preventive effects of inotodiol on polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid-induced inflammation in human dermal fibroblasts.

Inotodiol, a compound found in Chaga mushroom, has significant anti-inflammatory effects. It can suppress the inflammation induced by poly(I:C), which mimics double-strand RNA, in human dermal fibroblast cells. This suggests that inotodiol could be used as an effective anti-inflammatory agent in cosmetics.

Centella asiatica promotes antioxidant gene expression and mitochondrial oxidative respiration in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis.

Centella asiatica (Centella) does not improve cognitive function or reduce disease burden in multiple sclerosis (MS) in mice. However, it does increase antioxidant gene expression and mitochondrial respiratory activity, suggesting potential benefits in MS patients.

Developmental landscape of computational techniques to explore the potential phytochemicals from Punica granatum peels for their antioxidant activity in Alzheimer's disease.

Researchers prepared and studied a library of 1,000 compounds from peels to find antioxidants for Alzheimer's disease. Using computational calculations, they identified active compounds and performed molecular docking, optimization, and toxicity evaluation. Hesperidin showed promise as a potential drug for Alzheimer's treatment.
