Canthin-6-one (CO) from Picrasma quassioides (D.Don) Benn. ameliorates lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced astrocyte activation and associated brain endothelial disruption.

Canthin-6-one (CO) is a compound found in PQ that has anti-inflammatory properties. PQ has been shown to be neuroprotective, but the effects on astrocytes are unknown. Astrocytes are important in regulating neuroinflammatory responses in the CNS. Inflammatory astrocytes can cause BBB breakdown, which contributes to ND.

Selenium-containing polysaccharides isolated from Rosa laevigata Michx fruits exhibit excellent anti-oxidant and neuroprotective activity in vitro.

Researchers isolated two new types of selenium-containing polysaccharides from the fruits of Rosa laevigata Michx. These polysaccharides were able to protect cells from oxidative damage and had a radical scavenging effect, suggesting they have potential as a treatment for neurodegenerative diseases or as a dietary supplement. The underlying mechanism of action may be related to the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway.

Effects of Ethanolic Extract of Cynara cardunculus (Artichoke) Leaves on Neuroinflammatory and Neurochemical Parameters in a Diet-Induced Mice Obesity Model.

A study investigated how Cynara cardunculus leaf ethanol extract affected inflammation and oxidative stress in the brains and liver of obese mice. The extract did not affect body weight but reduced visceral fat. Obesity leads to inflammation and oxidative stress, but treatment with the extract partially reversed these changes and improved antioxidant defense. The extract may contribute to the treatment of obesity.

Taxonomic significance of palynological studies for identification of two morphologically similar Malva species.

Researchers used light and scanning electron microscopy to distinguish between Malva neglecta and Malva parviflora based on their pollen characteristics. They found differences in things like spine length and pore diameter that can be used to identify the two species. This study confirms the usefulness of pollen morphology in identifying different plant taxa and could help with taxonomic identification issues.

Cnidoscolus aconitifolius-supplemented diet enhanced neurocognition, endogenous antioxidants and cholinergic system and maintains hippocampal neuronal integrity in male Wistar rats.

The study examined the memory-enhancing effect of a diet supplemented with a plant extract (name not given) using two tests, Morris water maze and Novel object recognition test. The results suggest that the supplemented diet improved neurobehavioral performance and could potentially have implications for memory improvement.
